Role 1 / 2 / 3 (Medical Echelons)
Military medical echelons that determine what care capability and EHR systems are deployed at each level.
Why It Matters
Role 1: point-of-injury care, battalion aid station. Role 2: forward surgical teams with limited holding capacity. Role 3: theater-level hospital with full surgical and ICU capability. Each echelon has different IT requirements and connectivity constraints. The EHR that works at a Role 3 hospital may not function at a Role 1 aid station with a satellite uplink.
