Service Components

The military departments (Army, Navy, Air Force) and their subordinate organizations, plus Marines, Space Force, and Coast Guard.

Why It Matters

Each retains health systems separate from but coordinated with DHA. DHA has operational authority over MTFs, but the Services still own their medical personnel, training pipelines, and operational medicine requirements. This tension between DHA centralization and Service Component autonomy is a recurring theme in defense health policy.
